Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology (²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ) has approved a new policy mandating monthly “Faculty Research Hour” sessions across all academic departments, aiming to foster regular scholarly exchange and propel the institution toward its goal of becoming a research university.
The policy, titled “²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ Policy on the Conduct of Monthly Faculty Research Hour,” received unanimous approval during the MSU Board of Regents (BOR) en banc meeting on December 9, 2025, at MSU-Marawi. It takes effect immediately, addressing a key gap in faculty opportunities to share ongoing work amid major events like Research Week.
“While major institutional research events provide valuable platforms for showcasing completed work, there remains a gap in consistent opportunities for faculty to share ongoing research, receive peer feedback, and develop new ideas in an informal, supportive environment,” states the policy’s explanatory note.
The initiative institutionalizes simple, department-led sessions to promote collaboration without high costs or elaborate setups.
Each department must hold one one-hour session monthly, preferably on Wednesdays, focusing on research dissemination. Highlights include:
The policy emphasizes sustainability and flexibility, with monitoring by College Research Coordinators and updates to the Vice Chancellor for Research and Enterprise (OVCRE).
²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ Chancellor Alizedney M. Ditucalan described this as a cornerstone for embedding research into daily academic life.
Chancellor Ditucalan added that weaving brief, consistent research-oriented exchanges into everyday departmental activities helps the University cultivate a culture where scholarly dialogue becomes a standard, anticipated, and prized element of academic life.
Faculty and students anticipate the sessions will spark cross-pollination of ideas and continuous engagement between major events.
