To contribute to strengthening STEM education in the region, ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ, through the College of Science and Mathematics (CSM) and College of Education (CED), formalized a partnership with CISTEM, Inc, a non-profit organization committed to advancing STEM education, through the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) on January 13, 2026, at the University Boardroom.

Spanning a two-year partnership, the two parties are expected to implement teacher professional learning initiatives jointly, where ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ will perform the following key obligations: (1) provide faculty, subject matter experts, and researchers for program support, (2) host activities and provide venues, logistical support, labs, and learning resources, and (3) participate in monitoring, evaluation, and reporting of program outcomes.

Attending the MOA signing were Chancellor Alizedney M. Ditucalan, Vice Chancellors Prof. Pamela Resurreccion and Prof. Nancy Echavez, CSM and CED Executive Committee, and Director Melvin Magsayo and his team from CISTEM. Students from CED were also present during the ceremony.

Prior to this MOA signing, the two colleges had already set in motion two initiatives with CISTEM in 2025–a two-day training titled Teacher Advancement Program (TAP) for Science and Mathematics in October and a Small Scale Green Chemistry Education Workshop in August. The success of these prior activities has catapulted the move to take the collaboration to the next level.

According to the CSM Dean, Prof. Mylene Uy, in her message during the ceremony, both CSM and CED commit to a sustained collaboration with CISTEM to advance teacher professional development, curriculum innovation, and cutting-edge STEM pedagogy. “When we invest in teachers, we actually invest in generations of learners,” Dean Uy said. The highlight on strengthened pedagogical techniques was also seconded by the CED Dean, Prof. Amelia Buan, emphasizing the importance of content and pedagogy to achieve quality education.

A constant recalibration of educational techniques, especially in STEM education, remains a main priority at ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ to adapt to the changing times and cater to diverse learner needs. This partnership with CISTEM will magnify ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ’s significant role in capacitating educators in Mindanao.
